Our Supportive Dementia Assessment Pathway

Our supportive Dementia Assessment Pathway is designed to provide a thorough and accurate diagnosis through a structured, multi-stage process.

This pathway includes three distinct stages, each managed through separate agreements/contracts to ensure specialised care.

It is entirely led by Doctors at every step.

Dr Protherough a GP with a specialist interest on care of the older adult, she coordinates the pathway and with your consent we discuss the results at each stage between professionals.

Stage 1.

Home Visit

Memory assessment

Blood screen and ECG

Total cost: £555

(Payable to Home Visit Healthcare)

 

Dr Kirsten Protherough Founder, Home Visit HealthcareDr Kirsten Protherough conducts the initial comprehensive assessment, which includes:

Memory tests

Physical and Neurological examination

Blood tests

ECG and MRI referral

Stage 2.

Imaging for Dementia

Referral for MRI Brain or CT

Total cost: £275

(Payable to preferred imaging centre)

 

If MRI brain scan for dementia assessmentan MRI scan is required, it will be conducted by our recommended imaging centre or one of your choice.

This typically occurs within 7-10 days following the initial appointment.

 

Stage 3.

Specialist Consultation And

Dementia Diagnosis

Total cost: £350

(Payable to Dr Prabhakaran)

Expert Consultation by Dr. Pravin Prabhakaran, Older Adult Mental Health Consultant with results of the memory assessments, blood tests, MRI scan  collated by Dr. Kirsten Protherough.

This Consultation usually takes place within 2 weeks of the MRI scan, or within 2 weeks of the initial home visit if an MRI is not required.

This consultation lasts between 1 hr and and 1 hr and a half.

Dr Prabhakaran will provide a diagnosis and recommended treatment plan.

 

Ongoing care and follow up

Referral back to NHS GP and into

Local Older Adult Mental Health

Team

After the initial assessment and any required scans, you have three potential follow-up options:

Referral Back to Local Post-Diagnostic Dementia Service:

You will be referred to a local post-diagnostic dementia service for ongoing care and support.

Further Follow-Up with Our Specialists:

Specific Mental Health Follow-Up:

Dr. Pravin provides specialized mental health follow-up services at £200 per visit.

General GP Services:

Dr. Protherough offers general GP services at £150 per visit.

Referral to other specialists like Neurology

Sometimes the issue is a more neurological issues or neurodegenerative disorder and a neurology specialist opinion is required.

At this centre the reporting is a very high quality which is useful when correlating symptoms and pathology within different parts of the brain. It is also the best value for money.

What are the benefits of this private pathway?

This private pathway has no waiting list and the assessment, imaging and diagnosis (if appropriate) occurs quicker, meaning you have access to possible treatment options, support and follow up  sooner. We will refer you back into the NHS local teams which is important for follow up care, but with a diagnosis and treatment plan.
